We are located ½ mile from a local dairy farm, so given the direction and speed of the wind, there may sometimes be a fragrant breeze coming from the north.  We have all kinds of nature living harmoniously within our area, including deer, squirrel, raccoon, opossum, fox, coyote, hawk, bald eagles, mosquitos, flies, and other insects.  You may see and hear tractors during the daytime hours on the roadways and in the fields during planting and harvest season.  This location is perfect for a peaceful evening stroll down the country road after dinner or for an early morning jog to start your day. Our home is quiet, clean and very simplistic.  We provide a thermostatically controlled environment with heat and air conditioning, however all windows open to enjoy the wonderful country breeze in the warmer months if you so desire.  Wi-Fi is provided for all guests.  Parking is within a driveway in front of the home and can hold 4 - 6 vehicles comfortably.  We provide a furnished kitchen with gas range, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, dishes and cutlery, pots, pans, and cooking utensils.  We provide towels, washcloths, basic first-aid items, and some toiletry items in the bathroom.  The utility room provides a washer, dryer, iron, and ironing board for your laundry needs; we also provide detergent and fabric softener if you wish to do your laundry before you head home. Bedrooms are furnished with dressers, closets and hangers, bed linens, extra blankets and 2 sets of pillows to hopefully fit your comfort needs.  The upstairs bedroom #3 does not have a door - please see photos.  The master bedroom is on the main floor and is equipped with a standard television and local channels.  The living area looks and feels like home with relaxing furniture, throw blankets, electric fireplace, large television, DVD player, Roku TV and free local channels.  The office is equipped with a desk and chair, along with Ethernet connectivity to the router if required.  All rooms have night lights.  There are 2 steps leading into the house and there is a step up into the kitchen and into the living room; as well as bedroom 2 & 3 located up a flight of stairs. We do not charge a cleaning fee for our property, nor have we built the cleaning cost into your booking fee because this is our HOME, not a hotel.  We ask that you do your own dishes and clean-up after yourself, as you would do in your own HOME.  The garage is NOT available for guest rent or use.    LP gas grill available for $10 additional fee per visit. We're entrusting our home to you, your honesty is essential. Our home rules are as follows: No indoor smoking of any kind or vaping inside the house.  Smoking of any kind indoors will automatically forfeit your entire $500 deposit. Smoking OUTdoors is acceptable for “responsible” smokers who dispose of their cigarette butts properly, and not on the ground.  No pets or animals of any kind are allowed within the home or at the property. This is a clean and allergen free home and we intend on keeping it this way.  If you need a place for boarding while visiting, I’m happy to give you recommendations. Guests who bring pets or animals will be asked to leave the property immediately without refund. No shoes within the house please.  We kindly ask you to remove your shoes at the door and leave on supplied boot trays.  We have new carpet and flooring throughout the house and pride ourselves on a clean, allergen and bacteria free environment for everyone to enjoy. No parties or overnight guests.  The home only has beds to accommodate 6 people, without exception.  We ask that you please respect the rules and only bring only the guests that you disclose with your booking.  Additional overnight guests brought onto the property will be charged for and/or be required to leave immediately. We do not charge a cleaning fee for our property, nor have we built the cleaning cost into your booking fee because this is our HOME, not a hotel.  We ask that you do your own dishes and clean-up after yourself, similar to as you would do in your own HOME.  If we find that our home has been left in extreme conditions there will be a charge for the additional cleaning and damages.  We do charge a small additional fee for parties over 2 people for utilities, linens, and for additional time and costs of preparing the home for the next guests. Please remember this is a country home and raccoon, opossum, fox, and coyote all live within our area.  Trash should be disposed of properly to ensure overnight visitors do not make a mess.  We have outdoor video surveillance and recording for both our protection and your protection.  Any illegal activity will be reported to the local authorities, and the booking agency.  Guests involved in illegal activities, bringing pets, or breaking house rules may be asked to leave immediately without refund. The Lake Max Barn Studio is a barn built in 1916 and renovated into the Always Images Photography studio. We decided to also set it up as an Airbnb for when it’s not in use. Our 6.5 acre property is located just 1.2 miles from Lake Maxinkuckee and 3 miles from the Culver Academies. There are two bedrooms with queen beds and an additional twin bed. The property also is the home of Lake Max Meadows ( a large barn available for events up to 200 guests, The Lake Max Loft is also available to rent additionally and sleeps ten, and our home.

Situated on 6.5 acres of peaceful countryside and surrounded by neighboring fields, our loft is modern, yet rustic and inviting. Location is 1.5 miles away from Lake Maxinkuckee and 2.5 miles to the Culver Academies. The location is close enough to everything Culver has to offer. The Loft features a bedroom with a queen bed, yet in true loft style, it has a set of fun twin bunk beds and a queen pull out to accommodate even larger families. The first level has two queen Murphy beds as well for larger groups. In addition to our Lake Max Loft rental space, we are able to accommodate weddings and other events on our property, known as, Lake Max Meadows for an additional fee. This unit is less updated and works well as an overflow area. It can sleep up to 4 additional people. The basement has a washer and dryer and vintage pool table. The home is located close to the Culver Marina and is about 2.5 miles from downtown Culver, which has a number of restaurants, a public beach and a grocery store. We offer summer weekly rentals along with shorter minimum stays throughout the spring and fall. The close proximity to Culver Military Academy makes this a convenient place for Academy events. Hendricks-Hollowell Cottage is one of the original summer homes on the East Shore. The front (lakeside) half, built in the early 1880s by our great-grandmother's sister and her husband, is a gabled Queen Anne style. The back (streetside) half of the cottage was designed in the mid-1960s by local architect Rodney Todd, in mid-century modern style with Scandinavian influences. The cottage is furnished with sturdy antiques that have been in our family for 5+ generations. Born in 1893, our grandfather, Tommie Hendricks, spent nearly every summer of his life here, on the lake, with his cousins from Peru and Logansport. As an adult, he wrote his memoirs about growing up with his friend Cole Porter and their summer shenanigans at Maxinkuckee. The 3500 sq.ft. cottage sits on a bank 6 feet above 100 feet of shoreline and sandy-bottom water. The original section of the cottage, constructed in the early 1880s, faces the lake and has been lovingly restored. It retains most of its original Queen Anne features, such as decorated gables and trim, wood siding, wavy glass windows, and ornate Eastlake-style door and window hardware. This historic section includes: Downstairs – furnished screened porch (700 sq. ft.) across the entire front of the house, perfect for catching lake breezes or watchid ng glorious Maxinkuckee sunsets; large living room with sectional couch that converts to a queen bed, and a wood stove; library/sunroom (a great playroom for kids) with twin daybed; bedroom with 2 twin beds; full bath with shower/tub. Upstairs –1 full bath with shower; two bedrooms: 1) with queen bed and twin daybed with ceiling fan with large window overlooking the lake; 2) with full-sized poster bed, ceiling fan, and windows that open to the lake breezes. This section, typical of its time, was built as a summer house only and does not have central heat or air. With open doors and windows, the lake breezes provide ample cooling on all but the hottest nights (when fans, sleeping on the porch, or a nighttime dip might be called for!) A high-efficiency wood stove, located in the living room, and radiant electric heaters provide heat as needed to this part of the house in May and October. The mid-century modern half of the cottage (facing East Shore Drive) has central heat and AC. It includes: Downstairs – large dining room with cathedral ceiling, glass walls, and oak table that seats 10; large screened porch with ceiling fan, double futon bed, and breakfast nook; full kitchen with refrigerator, gas stove, dishwasher, and breakfast table; half bath; laundry room with utility sink, full washer and dryer, and mini-fridge. Upstairs – two bedrooms; one with two twin beds and a trundle; the other with the option of a king bed or two twin XLs. These two bedrooms share a full bath with tub/shower. Please note that the upstairs in this part of the cottage is accessed via a spiral staircase, which may not be suitable for elder family members (but which kids and others love!). Side yard includes a brick patio, large Weber charcoal grill, hammock, and plenty of room for bocce ball or croquet (sets provided). The garage has room for one car plus bikes or other equipment. Driveway parking lot accommodates 3 large cars, and there is additional parallel parking for 2 to 3 small cars (or 1 car with trailer.) Alongside the pier are racks for the Old Town canoe and Current Designs kayak. There's room on the pier to dock a small boat; additional watercraft or rafts can be anchored in the water next to the pier or a lift can be rented from the marina. The swimming here is wonderful for kids. At the end of the pier, the water is about 4' deep with sandy bottom. Because the lake is spring-fed, it stays cool throughout the Indiana summer.

This large historic lake cottage was first built as a boathouse and fishing lodge around 1900. It sits right on the lake on a large piece of property in the middle of the historic East shore, comfortably sleeping 13 people with our 5 bedrooms. There are 2 large dinning tables accommodating up to 20, it makes a wonderful space for families or groups of friends. Lounge on the large screened-in porch, and enjoy our huge grassy lawn for sunning and recreation. Ours is one of the few walk out flat lawns to the lake making it easy to watch and play with your children as you can access the lake from ankle deep waters. You can swim, sun, fish and play from the end of the dock in waist-high waters. We have a boat lift we can make available for rent if you'd like to bring or rent a boat from the marinas. We also have water toys, floats and a kayak for your enjoyment. The lake is great for skiing and tubing, and the sailing & the eastside sunsets can't be beat! The Culver Academies are about a 5 minute drive from our house and 7 minutes from town where you can find several wonderful restaurants, an old-fashion root beer stand and a great public beach and playground. We are also within a 5 minute drive from the Culver marina where you can rent boats, dine in their bar or outdoor grill and shop in their awesome apparel and lake sport shops. Originally owned by the Vonnegut family of Indianapolis, the home is now a comfortable and fun historic vacation rental. The home is perched up on the highest shoreline bluff of Lake Maxinkuckee. Built in 1889 as a summer retreat from the Vonnegut residence in Indianapolis as a cabin, it and its three neighbors were expanded into great lake homes by Architect Bernard Vonnegut. After 2 years of extensive renovations, the house boasts the comforts of modern amenities while maintaining its airy original connection to the past in its most historical portions. Our home is unique in that we have attempted to merge the past with the present. In doing so, our home is only PARTIALLY heated and air conditioned. This scenario is represented in the change in price per season. Whether you need a place to gather for Culver Academies events, want to spend some time relaxing on the lake between golf outings, or kick your feet up after the Notre Dame game, you will experience the best Lake Maxinkuckee has to offer at our historic home on the East Shore. Lovingly restored hardwood floors and Amish handcrafted furnishings will pull you back in time, while modern appliances will make you feel like you never left the comfort of home. Truly the best of both worlds. Be on the lookout for some unique features such as a working antique Victrola, complete with a large supply of records - and across the room, a Sonos where you can listen to your own digital favorites. During the Winter Months (October - April) rental access is limited to a heated 2 bedroom, 2 bath home with a kitchen and dining room. The sitting room can be made into a 3rd bedroom via a comfortable Murphy bed if desired. The rest of the home is less desirable during this time as there is no heat in classic Lake cabin style, and our Northern Indiana winters can be very chilly. During the Summer Months (May - September) our home opens up, providing access to the non heated/non air conditioned sections of the home, and we can accommodate up to 24 people (18 adults + 2 toddlers + 4 on roll-a-way beds) with 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Only the 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, sitting room, kitchen and dining room with heat in the winter are air conditioned in the summer (both heat and cooling are geothermal). The oldest part of the house gets an almost constant, pleasant breeze up the bluff from the lake and can be comfortable on even the hottest days (but it should be clear it is not air conditioned). We provide fans for summer and space heaters for winter. Guest also have a fully equipped kitchen ready for meal prep, as well as clean linens and a very large washer and dryer. I will correspond with you prior to your arrival to let you know how to access the key to our home. With a population around 1,500, Culver is likely one of the safest places you might stay. However, we do ask that you lock up your personal belongings if you leave the house, as we can not be responsible for any missing items. During your stay, I am only a phone call away. If for any reason I am not available, we also have a licensed and bonded contractor who can fix (or can figure out) just about anything. If neither of us can fix a potential problem, we will do our best to make it right. If you have any questions or concerns during your stay, please feel free to contact me directly. Culver is one big neighborhood. The East Shore of Lake Maxinkuckee has historically been one of the most prestigious locations on the lake thanks to the magnificent sunsets, large shore frontage, and convenience to town. The Town of Culver offers a grocery, pharmacy, bank, post office, and churches, along with interesting shops and dining. You can't get lost in Culver, but you may fall in love! Maps, along with lists of eateries, golf courses, things to do, and general town information can be found in the informational welcome book at our house for your convenience. Any specific questions can be directed to me personally. Other things to note: Our home sits on one of the highest points on the East Shore. While this location provides the most beautiful sunsets and an amazing summer breeze, please note there are 56 steps down to the water's edge and our wooden pier/boat dock, making it difficult or impossible for individuals with disabilities. We have approximately 75 feet of water front, divided between a small sandy area and board walk/pier, please see pictures. While the home is not specifically child proofed, we do provide a booster seat for dining, as well as a pack-n-play.
